April 11, 2018 - Metabo Corporation, international manufacturer of industrial grade cordless and corded hand-held power tools and accessories, introduces their new line of flap discs.

“We are excited to introduce our new expanded line of Flap Discs. Flap discs are the perfect mixture of grinding and sanding discs. A grinding wheel can be too aggressive, and a fiber disc might not be aggressive enough on the material being worked or may not offer the longevity to get the job done. For example, if you want to grind down a weld seam flush but don’t want to gouge into the base material, flap discs are the perfect solution” said Hal Martin, Metabo’s Accessory Product Manager.

Metabo’s flap disc offering includes over 100 skus with various sizes: (4-1/2 in., 5 in., 6 in. and 7 in., in both hubbed and non-hubbed), type 27 and type 29 as well as multiple grits for all sizes (40, 60, 80 and 120).  Metabo now offers 3 levels of performance: the heavy duty “Original Flapper”, the super duty “Flapper Plus” and the extreme duty “Ceramic Flapper”. These performance levels mirror the ones of Metabo’s famous Slicer family, known to offer the highest performance in cutting discs. With additional options, such as the Flapper Plus Jumbo for additional life, the plastic-backed Flapper Plus Trimmable and Ceramic Flapper Trimmable, Metabo offers one of the most comprehensive lines of flap discs on the market. Metabo also offers specialty convex flap discs for shaping fillet welds and grinding on edge in confined areas.

The Flapper Plus Jumbo Disc has 62 percent more flaps then the standard Flapper Plus and is optimal for extended grinding time without having to make a disc change.  Trimmable flapper discs prolong the discs’ life, increase the flexibly of the flap disc and include 5/8 in.-11 threading for convenience of spinning the disc on and off.

Original Flapper Discs are for heavy-duty use: fast stock removal, one step blending and finishing. Flapper Plus Discs are super duty: perfect for one step blending and finishing, aggressive stock removal and offer a cooler grind when working with heat sensitive materials. Ceramic Flappers fall under extreme duty: extreme removal rate, the longest life of the three categories and lowest total operating cost.

The Metabo Flapper line is designed to complement the performance of Metabo angle grinders. For highest performance, productivity and safety, use the “Metabo System” by pairing Metabo abrasives with Metabo grinders.

Self-lock threading tools

April 5, 2018 - Emuge Corp., manufacturer of high performance taps, drills, end mills and other rotary tools, has announced its industry-leading thread making tool quality is available in a SELF-LOCK integrated locking system. Emuge SELF-LOCK threading tools offer a high quality alternative in thread locking for vital safety applications in aerospace, medical, communications, transportation industries and more.

The Emuge thread locking feature is integrated in the internal thread, and has a modified profile with a 30 degree ramp surface in the direction of stress which provides the self-locking effect. In an ideal screw connection for high-stress situations, where there is a standard external thread in an Emuge SELF-LOCK internal thread, the internal thread yields a self-locking screw connection that can be used repeatedly.

"The special profile of the SELF-LOCK thread allows an even distribution of stress over the entire thread length and therefore eliminates slippage," said Mr. Mark Hatch, Product Director at Emuge Corp. "We are pleased to offer such a safety critical threading solution which results in no stripping of threads and is cost-effective because no additional components are necessary."

Compared with standard threads, the Emuge SELF-LOCK internal thread shows constant, maximum holding power under dynamic stress. Functions remain in good operation even with repeated loosening and re-tightening of the thread connection. This locking effect is caused by the ramp-shaped surface integrated into the thread profile.

SELF-LOCK technology results in increased threading tool life for larger thread hole diameters and provides larger tolerances for thread hole diameters. Also, assembly is easy with no assembly errors possible such as forgetting the locking device. To gage SELF-LOCK threads, Emuge recommends using its two-piece gage system which corresponds to the usual combination of a go/ no-go gage.

Emuge SELF-LOCK Threading Tools work with standard external threads (screws) with tolerance class "medium". Internal threads can be produced with Emuge taps, cold forming taps or thread mills. Lubritool lubricates in seconds

March 29, 2018 -  RÖHM Products of America has introduced a fast, intelligent and fully automatic lubrication device for HSK spindle tool clamping systems. The new device is called Lubritool, and it minimizes costly and time-consuming manual lubrication maintenance work as well as prevents machine downtime.

Lubritool is available in HSK-A63 and HSK-A100 interfaces and includes a Lubriflux grease cartridge that provides 100 cycle applications. The device is stored in the machine’s tool magazine and upon command by the machine’s control is swapped into the spindle to provide the ideal amount of lubrication directly to the tool clamping system. After the lubrication process, which occurs in just a few seconds, Lubritool is placed back into the tool magazine where it remains until the next lubrication cycle.

HSK clamping sets should be serviced after approximately 75 hours of operation or 20,000 tool changes to ensure process reliability. The manual lubrication process usually requires the machine to be shut down, which interrupts workflow to the point where operators will extend the time between lubrications or neglect the process altogether. Deviations from the optimum lubrication protocols can result in machine performance deterioration and/or failure.

Sensor offers precise detection

Banner Engineering, a leading provider of technology for industrial automation, today announced the release of VS8 Series Miniature Sensors for precise detection in applications with extremely limited space.

Sensors in the VS8 Series have a space-saving form factor (21.1 mm x 14.6 mm x 8 mm) for use in confined spaces and near moving parts. They are available in red laser, red LED, or blue LED models with opposed, retroreflective, adjustable, or fixed-field background suppression sensing modes. This versatility allows companies to match the sensing technology to the application.

VS8 Series sensors detect very small parts and other difficult targets that challenge many sensors. Red laser models have a bright, precise spot for detecting multicolored targets and objects as small as 0.5 mm. Blue LED models reliably detect targets with dark or reflective surfaces and transparent objects without requiring a reflector. Red LED models are cost-effective, multi-purpose sensors that detect a wide range of targets.

Industry standard side mounting holes with 15 mm spacing facilitate installation on new or existing equipment. The dovetail mounting option allows ±10° tip/pivot adjustments for quick, precise alignment of the sensor. High-visibility status LEDs, electronic push-button, and remote input teach make it easy to program the sensors. These features support rapid integration and simplify operation.

VS8 Series sensors are ideal for a wide variety of applications in the automotive, electronics, pharmaceutical, robots, and semiconductor industries.

Secure tools and save time

JMPP’s high-torque retention knobs are longer and reach deeper into the holder’s threaded bore. All thread engagement occurs in a region of the toolholder where the diameter is large and where there is more material to resist deformation. The knobs work in existing toolholders and are hard turned to ensure precision fit and balance.
