Square Pads and Cross Pads
Square pads are smoother and easier to control, while grinding almost as fast as hard wheels. Their corners wear down consistently exposes fresh abrasive, and the pad becomes round for less aggressive stock removal. New Norton Merit Pink Square Pads are exceptionally well suited for the quick blending of channels, fillets, corner and spotting flat surfaces. Sizes include 2 in. by 2 in. by 1/2 in., 3 in. by 3 in. by 1/4 in. and 3 in. by 3 in. by 1/2 in.
Cross Pads are shaped to enable seeing through to the contact area for conforming to variable internal diameters. Norton Merit Pink Cross Pads are used for close-tolerance polishing of small radii and channels, deburring, and finishing bell-mouth configurations. Sizes offered include 1 1/2 in. by 1 1/2 in. by 1 1/2 in., 2 in. by 2 in. by 3/4 in. and 3 in. by 3 in. by 1 in.
Mounted Points
Offered in many sizes in several different shapes, Norton Merit Pink 86A Vitrified Bond Mounted Points are used in a broad range of operations on a variety of machines. Mounted points are small grinding wheels permanently fastened to its own spindle. Diameters range from 1/4 in. to 1 in., and are offered in a multitude of configurations and heights.

Honing brushes designed for performance and value
June 4, 2019 - Weiler Abrasives, Cresco, Pennsylvania, provider of abrasives, power brushes and maintenance products for surface conditioning, has introduced its new line of CrossFlex honing brushes designed to provide machinists with performance and value for their professional honing applications. Available in small, medium and large diameters and with heavy-duty options, these brushes provide a surface finish free of metal burrs and are ideal for manual or automated use in automotive; marine, oil and gas production; aerospace; and tube, pump and valve production applications.
CrossFlex brushes are designed to provide a long operational life, lowering the total cost of use compared to other brush options. They are available in a variety of grits — 120, 180, 240 and 320 grit — to achieve the desired finish, along with offering increased brush-to-part contact to remove even the heaviest burrs compared to nylon tube brushes. Flexible nylon stems distribute pressure evenly, self-centering within the part to create an accurate hone. Available collet-ready brushes deliver a true center rotation and exceptional brush balance for both hand-held and automated applications. CrossFlex brushes also feature a consistent cross hatch pattern to ensure proper seating of piston rings and to retain oil for lubrication in combustion cylinders.
Understanding that not all finishing and deburring applications require a standard solution, Weiler Abrasives offers the option to work with one of its Weiler Process Solutions specialists to create custom CrossFlex brushes. Solutions include custom-sized brushes for specific bore diameters, brushes with longer or shorter stems, and brushes that are collet-ready or require another connection method. CrossFlex brushes can also be customized with the desired abrasive: silicon carbide, aluminum oxide, zirconia alumina or ceramic grains.
For honing applications, Weiler Abrasives recommends using honing oil with its CrossFlex brushes for engine cylinders and hydraulic oil for hydraulic applications. In deburring applications, the brushes are compatible with water-soluble and -synthetic coolants.
Tool & Die rust preventative cuts costs
May 28, 2019 - Cortec, St. Paul, Minnesota, recently developed EcoAir Tool & Die Rust Preventative to meet the needs of mold, tool, and die manufacturers and end users. This effective liquid rust preventative comes in a non-flammable spray can that makes it easier to use than traditional greases and shipping oils employed to protect tooling assets and all tool steels during shipping, storage, and transport. It is also relatively safer to store than traditional highly flammable aerosols.
The development of EcoAir Tool & Die Rust Preventative is another example of Cortec’s responsiveness to specific customer and market needs. Cortec tailored the product for a large midwestern U.S. tool and die manufacturer who wanted to eliminate any possibility of corrosion on a 40,000 pound (18,144 kg) Class A plastic-injection mold during its five- to six-week overseas boat shipment to Europe. By packaging an effective vegetable-oil-based rust preventative in an EcoAir spray can, Cortec was able to deliver a cost-effective solution while providing superior protection of this vital and expensive customer asset.
EcoAir Tool & Die Rust Preventative was sprayed on the internal surfaces of the mold maker’s two-cavity automotive interior P20 plastic-injection mold prior to shipment. This provided corrosion protection, as well as water displacement and cleaning properties for any process-related fluids remaining on the mold.
The mold successfully reached the European client with no corrosion issues at all. The client was pleased that EcoAir Tool & Die Rust Preventative did not need to be cleaned off the mold. The client requested that all molds be shipped in the same manner going forward. In addition to achieving a successful delivery, the U.S. mold maker also benefited by cutting the tooling protection costs approximately in half of what is typically incurred when using traditional greases and oils. Unlike EcoAir Tool & Die Rust Preventative, these traditional rust preventatives must be cleaned off the mold with solvent-based removers. This increases labor and hazardous waste disposal costs, while submitting workers to additional health concerns.
EcoAir Tool & Die Rust Preventative is specifically designed for all similar tool and die applications and can also be used by anyone* that wants to
• Clean grease, oils, adhesives, and water deposits off metal surfaces
• Displace moisture and protect metal surfaces from corrosion
• Preserve all types of carbon or alloy-based steel tooling, molds, fixtures, and dies long-term up to 24 months indoors
*EcoAir® Tool & Die Rust Preventative is only available for sale in the United States. Please contact Cortec® to discuss rust preventative options for other countries.

Water cooled semi-automatic torch
March 14, 2019 - American Weldquip, Sharon Center, Ohio, recently introduced a new enhancement to its “Cool Grip” water-cooled semi-automatic line up. All water-cooled "Cool-Grip" semi-automatic torches will now be manufactured and shipped standard with a built-in water flow switch.
The integrated flow switch protects the torch and components against low or no water flow conditions. If low flow is detected the trigger circuit is deactivated. 80 percent of water-cooled torch repairs are due to compromised water-cooled power cables because of the lack of water flow. Most of the time this is ends up being an expensive repair. This new standard feature from American Weldquip, along with an anti-stretch cord to prevent pulling apart of cable assemblies, helps end-users avoid costly repairs and downtime.
