May 5, 2020 - Electric arc and welding splatter protective garments require a durable, high strength, high performance FR fabric that adds value without compromising comfort. The Tillman 9730 Welding Jacket delivers just that and is definitely not your basic welding jacket. The 9730 jacket begins with soft and comfortable, fire resistant 9-ounce U.S. made Westex® FR-7A® fabric and a Twaron®/Lenzing® blend for the sleeves with ANSI A2 Cut Resistance.

The FR-7A® fabric Tillman uses for the torso is designed to self-extinguish and complies with ASTM D6413-10 flammability test which requires a maximum char length of 5 inches or a maximum after flame of 2 seconds. FR-7A® material is also pre-shrunk for comfort and maintains its accurate size for the life of the jacket.

The sleeves of the 9730 are made of a twill weave of 40% Twaron® and 60% Lenzing FR® material where sparks and spatter have met their match. The Twaron® material offers strength, high thermal capability and ANSI/ISEA 105-2016 Level A2 Cut Resistance. The Lenzing FR® material offers flame resistance, comfort and moisture management. “The Twaron/Lenzing blend provide a welder better cut resistance, heat protection and better protection from sparks and spatter compared to a traditional leather sleeve” said Jeff Shipley, Tillman’s Director of Marketing.

The sleeves also meet the ARC Thermal Performance Test ASTM 1959, ATPV (cal/cm²) 10.6-12.1 and the ARC Thermal Performance of NFPA 7OE and Level 2.

One nice feature of the 9730 jacket, compared to a welding jacket with leather sleeves, is that the FR-7A® and the Twaron/Lenzing blend material can be laundered up to 50 home or 25 commercial home washings.

The 9730 offers a roomy inside pocket to store smaller items and is an ample thirty inches in length. The jacket is available in – Medium, Large, Extra Large, 2X and 3X.

Tillman’s 9730 is an outstanding fire-resistant welding jacket with breathable comfort, durability and ANSI Level A2 Cut Resistance.

Welding jacket provides extra protection

August 15, 2018 - Now welders can work more safely around potential flash fire and arc flash hazards with the new NFPA 2112 & NFPA 70E Certified FR Cotton Welding Jacket (JF2220-GY) from Black Stallion®.

Constructed of durable 9 ounce flame-resistant treated cotton, the JF2220-GY meets ASTM F1506 requirements for flame resistance and is tested to maintain protection through 100 home washings or 50 commercial laundry cycles.  Flame resistance is enhanced by the use of strong FR aramid threads throughout the jacket.

Certified to both NFPA 2112 and NFPA 70E standards, the JF2220-GY is designed for welders who may be exposed to short-duration thermal exposures from fire and arc flash hazards typically associated with Oil & Gas, Utility, and Industrial applications.  With an Arc Thermal Performance Value (ATPV) of 10 cal/cm2, the jacket can be part of a Category 2 PPE program for work with potential exposure to energized electrical equipment.

Six front snaps on the jacket are covered with a layer of FR cotton to eliminate conduction of electricity in the event of an arc flash incident.  These six front snaps are reinforced with leather backing to reduce the risk of tearing and eliminate pull through.

Other jacket features include a standup welder’s collar to protect the neck from sparks and debris, an outside scribe pocket on the left sleeve, and a convenient inside pocket.  The extended 32” length offers additional torso protection.

Stretch-Back FR Cotton Welding Jacket

May 21, 2018 - Staying cool, comfortable, and protected while welding is now easier with the new Stretch-Back FR Cotton Welding Jacket (JF1625-NG) from Black Stallion.

The lightweight stretch-back welding jacket offers all the protection of a Black Stallion standard welding jacket, with the added comfort of a flame-resistant cotton stretch knit back panel.

The looped knit yarns of the back panel are extremely flexible, offering comfortable stretch. This horizontal stretch provides just the right amount of “give” as a welder moves his shoulders and arms. These looped knit yarns also allow more air to flow through the fabric. This increased airflow provides more breathable comfort and can create a cooling effect as the job heats up.

And, the seven ounce cotton stretch knit back panel includes ASTM F1506 compliant flame resistance. Welders get the added benefit of comfort and breathability without sacrificing protection.

The front, shoulders, arms, and neck of the JF1625-NG are constructed of nine ounce flame-resistant cotton. The jacket offers protection for most light welding applications and includes all the high-quality, innovative features you expect from Black Stallion. The stand-up welder’s collar, with snap closure, helps keep sparks off the neck. And, the extended 32” length offers enhanced torso protection.

Six powder-coated stainless steel front snaps secure the jacket with less gapping. Other welding jackets use as little as four buttons, leaving wide gaps for sparks to potentially penetrate. The six front snaps are reinforced with leather backing to reduce the risk of tearing.

The new Stretch-Back FR Cotton Welding Jacket (JF1625-NG) from Black Stallion is available through independent welding and safety distributors nationwide.
