A compatible tool

September 2017 - Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and the Woodstock music festival captivated a generation of rock ‘n’ roll fans in the summer of 1969. Although not nearly as celebrated as the aforementioned events, Trumpf Inc. was established in June of that year and its products and solutions have helped advance the manufacturing industry for nearly a half-century.

Farmington, Connecticut-based Trumpf, the North American subsidiary of Trumpf GmbH + Co. KG in Ditzingen, Germany, is known for its line of sheet metal fabrication machinery and industrial lasers. Moreover, the company produces nozzle consumables. For industrial applications, selecting the appropriate nozzle is vital for procuring quality parts and cuts throughout the entire cutting cycle.

Trumpf's nozzles augment efficiency and maximize profits from the introduction of raw materials to the processing of a finished product.

Flor Ariza, a TruServices sales manager at Trumpf, says the nozzles complement, and align with, its machine tools. These consumables are safe, durable, concentric and designed with precise geometries and strict production tolerances to provide smart gas consumption.

Trumpf’s nozzles lessen burr formation, among other features metal-cutting operators want, he says.

“Our original nozzles are manufactured with the highest quality materials,” says Ariza.

The plug and play Trumpf nozzles go through a rigorous, 20-point quality check during production to guarantee that they will be 100 percent compatible, 100 percent of the time. “This reduces the time to manually replace the nozzle and perform alignments.”

In terms of usage, he continues, the nozzle is the tip through which the laser beam exits onto the sheet metal. A defective nozzle, one that is not properly centered or created with inexpensive material, can cause poor quality cuts. “Poor cuts translate to more downtime and higher production costs.”

These consumables are designed with precise geometries and strict production tolerances to provide smart gas consumption.

Ariza notes that Trumpf’s nozzles help augment workers’ efficiency and maximize profits from the introduction of raw materials to the processing of a finished product.

“Some of our nozzles are designed to specifically reduce the consumption of gas up to 70 percent, while others are designed to allow a closer nesting on the sheet metal.” The higher yield from each sheet means less waste. Another savings comes from the judicious use of gas while cutting.

Many competing nozzle designs are used to cut very thick material with water to prevent deformation on the sheet. According to Ariza, “The superior design and material of Trumpf’s nozzles provide higher reliability, longer lifespan and lower production cost per hour.”

Nearing its 50th anniversary, the equipment builder and tool supplier has provided benefits to metal processing operations across the globe. In fact, for its particular capabilities, Trumpf may have given metal fabricators “one giant leap.”
