Real-time fastener inventory eliminates guesswork

November 2018 - Small but mighty, fasteners are an integral part of design and assembly. Without them, things would fall apart—literally. When selecting a fastener, it’s important to research available options and understand a fastener’s fit, the material it’s made of, the type of threads, the cost, and the end-use environment.

The vast amount of fasteners on the market makes the decision-making process even more difficult. Value Fastener LLC, West Bloomfield, Michigan, for example, carries over 32,000 different products and more than 20 different types of screws alone.

Value Fastener was founded with the goal of making purchasing online easy with real-time inventory so that customers know whether their perfect fastener is in stock and ready to ship.

Low-quality fasteners can add to costs in the long run.

“Too many of our current customers had experiences where they purchased online, only to find out the product or products were on back order,” says Allan Weitzman, co-owner of Value Fastener. “When our customers order fasteners, they typically need them right away. And, because fasteners are so important in the production and assembly process, ordering them shouldn’t take up too much of the purchaser’s time.”

Allan and Greg Weitzman created Value Fastener to “take away that guesswork,” with a site that shows a customer real-time inventory and provides them with a simple method to search for specific products.

“You can select different product variables to help pinpoint the exact part you need,” Allan Weitzman says. “The various variables are type of screw, size, length, head style, drive, material and finish. On top of that, there’s a shipping option that allows the customer to use their UPS, FedEx or DHL account number, allowing them to ship product at their discounted rate.”

Value Fastener ships from locations in Michigan, New Jersey, Illinois and California. “With multiple locations, we try to ship out of the location that’s closest to the destination,” Allan Weitzman says, which means customers save on freight costs. “Also, if a customer needs product delivered the next day but it’s 5:00 p.m. on the East Coast, we can ship out of a West Coast location so they can still get it the next day.”

Thousands of screws and many finish options are available.

Sporadic needs

Real-time inventory helps customers manage their needs—especially when demand is inconsistent. “We had a cabinet company where jobs were coming in sporadically,” Allan Weitzman says. “One month they were using 50,000 screws, and another they were using 5,000 screws. They appreciated the fact that we show how many of each particular product we have in stock. This took away the worry of wondering if we had the product in stock as well as allowing them to have their worry-free online experience without picking up a phone.”

The company’s best-selling product line is screws, and it offers “a huge variety of standard screws,” Allan Weitzman says. “There are so many different features of a screw, and that’s just one reason why customers prefer Value Fastener. Our large inventory of screws—along with nuts, bolts and other fasteners—provides the ultimate source.” He also notes another popular product is fasteners with a black oxide finish.

Although Allan Weitzman says “most customers know what they need,” Value Fastener also can offer “a service that doesn’t stop with just supplying fasteners. We supply expertise, ensuring your fastening application is being completed using the best fastener for the job, while keeping in mind the cost to save customers unneeded expense.”

The company motto, he says, is “that we supply a service first and a product second. Anyone can sell a screw, but great service is another attribute that makes us unique.”
