Cleaner designed to replace solvents

August 20, 2018 - Houghton International has developed an advanced cleaner designed to replace solvents in precision cleaning applications. Houghto-Rinse RTD™ is a water-based, non-flammable, ready-to-use cleaner that delivers outstanding process performance and surface appearance in a wide range of surface finishing applications.

Houghto-Rinse RTD is a direct replacement for highly volatile solvents in applications where flammability, health, safety and environmental factors are concerns. It is designed to remove surface residues such as spray paint, marker pen, ink, glue, grease and production soil prior to final inspection, assembly or packaging. It is safe for use on all surfaces including aluminum, steel, magnesium, plastics, painted surfaces, and fiberglass. Its cleaning effectiveness and non-residue properties make it particularly valuable for critical cleaning applications where surface appearance is important.

“Extensive field testing has demonstrated that Houghto-Rinse RTD delivers outstanding cleaning performance on a broad range of applications,” said Tony Pavesich, Houghton Surface Finishing Industry Leader. “It dries quickly, leaves no residue, and is ready-to-use, so it improves product quality and process efficiency.” The product is also economical, low-odor, and contains rust prevention properties, which may be important when used to clean steel components in critical applications.

Abrasive discs transform grinding operations

June 13, 2018 -  Walter Surface Technologies, Windsor, Connecticut, has unveiled its new ErgoFlex™ abrasive disc—a safer, more ergonomic, equally powerful alternative to traditional grinding wheels.

Combining a type 29 disc design and Walter’s proprietary Cyclone™ technology, ErgoFlex™ is designed for extremely smooth weld blending on both flat and curved surfaces. It allows for a more comfortable working angle than type 27 depressed center grinding wheels, along with cleaner, quieter grinding operations. With an aggressive 36 grit or higher abrasive grain blend, ErgoFlex™ removes material fast with minimal gouging risk.

“For manufacturing professionals looking to balance safety, ergonomics, and productivity, ErgoFlex™ is the perfect solution,” says Marc Brunet-Gagné, Product Manager of Bonded Abrasives at Walter Surface Technologies. “ErgoFlex™ offers the same power and speed as traditional grinding wheels, but with 95% less dust, 50% less noise, 50% less vibrations, and better ergonomics. It’s also less likely to gouge materials, thus increasing efficiency and cost savings."

Designed for heavy manufacturing, pipeline construction, metal fabrication, and other industrial needs, ErgoFlex™ is suitable for use in a wide range of grinding operations including grinding welded steel and stainless steel, heavy grinding, weld removal, and beveling.

Abrasive can handle difficult materials

Brush Research has introduced a new abrasive for the Flex Hone line. Cubic Boron Nitride combines high hardness with excellent toughness to provide the optimum surface finish in materials like Monel, Inconel, Incoloy, Hasteloy, Invar and Rene. The tool reduces the work hardened layer produced by machining operations without imparting thermally induced distortion. The resulting surface is less prone to oxidation and stress-induced cracking.

Fine-grit tool for any type, size of cylinder

The resilient Flex-Hone tool features a soft cutting action that provides a surface finish with a non-directional or crosshatched pattern. Fine honing in 400, 600, and 800 grit are available, as is a diamond abrasive that can finish and produce the proper edge radius on harder materials such carbide, ceramic and aerospace steel alloys.
