New POLINOX fiber-backing disc from PFERD

July 8, 2019 - PFERD, Milwaukee, has announced the introduction of the POLINOX® fiber-backing disc. The disc, which is designed for long service life and working on large surfaces with variable speed angle grinders, has non-woven abrasive flaps with fiberglass backing for face-down finishing work. The non-woven abrasive disc is well suited for manufacturing a wide range of products, such as hand pads, drums, discs, belts, mounted points and grinding wheels, Its abrasive properties are tailored to a variety of metal machining and grinding applications. It uses aluminum oxide A abrasive.

POLINOX fiber-backing discs feature the same construction as PFERD’s PNZ and PNL flap wheels and finishing drums. Interleaved discs (PNZ type) come in two different grits while radial discs (PNL type) come in three different grit sizes. The PNZ type will create a coarser surface finish and remove more material than the PNL type. Both discs are available in two diameters, 4-1/2-in. and 5 7/8-in. arbors. The material on the fiberglass backer is approximately ¾-in. thick and will create a non- linear surface finish. These discs are ideal for step-by-step fine grinding, and prep-to-paint applications where cosmetics are not an issue.

Gemtex Quicklock “Spinner” Disc

January 29, 2019 - This new attachment option can be applied to any resin fibre or surface conditioning disc with 7/8" arbor. The 5/8"-11 Type “S” threaded lock, on the backside of the disc, provides the operator with the ability to do flat grinding and eliminates the possibility of scratching the work piece. The threaded lock allows the disc to quickly spin on and off the spindle without the need for a locking nut and wrench. Samples available upon request.

January 7, 2019 - CS Unitec, Norwalk, Connecticut, has recently introduced the new PLANTEX® SUNFIRE™ CERAMIC dual-grain disc with 5/8 in. by 11 in. hub that allows users to grind, blend and finish with only one disc. The disc’s 40/60 combination grit grinds like a 40, blends and finishes like a 60, saving considerable working time and extending its service life on all metals (including steel, stainless, titanium, aluminum and bronze). The SUNFIRE’s patented multigrain ceramic-hybrid grit structure provides aggressive material removal as well as controlled blending and finishing.

The disc’s ceramic-hybrid cloth flaps are adhered to a PLANTEX® hemp-based backing plate. The backing plate, composed of 70 percent natural hemp fiber, is stronger, more versatile and safer than traditional backing plates. SUNFIRE’s high-strength construction enables longer run times, while its flexible backing plate more easily conforms to the surface of the workpiece. Suitable for a wide variety of applications, including working in tight spaces, the disc is easily trimmable and can be used to the abrasive’s last fraction of an inch. Ultimately, the PLANTEX® SUNFIRE™ CERAMIC discs run safer – they are fiberglass-free and produce no harsh fumes, airborne fibers or sharp pieces.

Available in 4-1/2 in. and 5 in. diameters, each PLANTEX® SUNFIRE™ CERAMIC disc is capable of removing up to 9 lbs. of material.

June 7, 2018 -  Mercer Industries recently released its next generation of premium ceramic products with the introduction of Ceraflame 2™ Resin Fibre Discs.  These discs feature a high concentration of ceramic grain lasting 40% longer than the original grain.  Ceramic, a premium man-made grain that self-sharpens throughout its life, is the longest lasting, coolest cutting abrasive in the Mercer Industries line.

These new resin fibre discs are specially formulated to be used on high performance alloys, high carbon steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals and heat sensitive metals. They have a heavy-duty vulcanized fibre backing and a top size coating for cool, fast cutting.  Available in grits from 24 to 80, they can be used to strip, grind, debur and polish. The discs are contaminant free to prevent stainless steel from rusting and will not stain or burn material.

Ceraflame 2™ Premium Ceramic Resin Fibre Discs are available in 4 ½ in. by 7/8 in. hole with a max RPM of 13,300.

“We are excited to be able to offer Ceraflame 2™ to the marketplace,” states Gayla Brainerd, Director of Sales.  “We work closely with our customers to develop products that fill requirements that are not necessarily being met by the current products on the market.  This is a natural progression of the Ceraflame™ product line, providing our partners with a premium offering to help satisfy their customer’s needs.”
