Makita launches world’s first cordless cut-off saw
December 11, 2018 - Makita, La Mirada, California, has expanded its range of tools powered by two 18V batteries with the new 18V X2 LXT® (36V) Brushless 14 in. Cut-Off Saw (XWL01). The XWL01 is the world’s first cordless cut-off saw, and is engineered for cutting light gauge metals including pipe, all thread, conduit, tubing, rebar, light gauge metal stud and Uni-strut®.
Maximum Cordless Performance
Powered by two 18V LXT batteries, the XWL01 delivers maximum cordless performance with 3,800 RPM and cutting capacity of 5 in. (round) and 4 in. by 7-5/8 in. (rectangular tubing). In run-time testing the XWL01 delivered up to 104 cuts in 20 gauge metal stud (1-1/4 in. by 3-5/8 in.) using two 18V 5.0Ah batteries. Ideal for mechanical and plumbing contractors, electricians, sprinkler fitters, metal fabricators, and concrete contractors, the cut-off saw allows users to eliminate the hassles and trip-hazards of power cords on the job site.
World’s Largest 18V Cordless Tool System
The new XWL01 is part of Makita’s expanding LXT system, and with over 200 solutions LXT is the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.
More Features for Efficient Cutting
The XWL01 features “tool-less” flange removal for quick wheel changes, and a large spark guard engineered to capture and deflect debris away from the surrounding area. Makita’s Brushless BL™ Motor eliminates carbon brushes so it runs cooler and more efficiently for longer life. Additional features include soft start, electric brake, a large ergonomic handle and two-stage lock-off power button.
Protection for a Contractor’s Cordless Investment
For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls™. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.
New Blade Engineered for More Cuts Per Charge
Both the kit and tool-only configurations include a 14 in. by 1 in. by 3/32 in. Abrasive Cut-Off Wheel (model B-64705) that features a special bond and reduced thickness. When compared to the standard Makita 1/8 in. thick wheel, the new B-64705 wheel makes up to 30 percent more cuts per charge, up to 40 percent faster cuts and up to 250 percent longer performance life. The new B-64705 wheel is designed for use with the new XWL01 or with corded cut-off saws.
Cut-off wheels offer fast cutting
August 21, 2018 - Saint-Gobain Abrasives has introduced its new Norton QUANTUM3™ RightCut Wheels, adding cut-off capability to its Norton QUANTUM3™ (NQ3) line which also includes Depressed Center Grinding Wheels and Combination Wheels. FABTECH 2018 attendees can see the entire Norton NQ3 Grinding Wheels Line at Booth #C11110 at Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, November 6 - 8.
In comparison tests, NQ3 RightCut Wheels have several key benefits over competitive wheels. True to the Norton Quantum3 technology, and its previously released NQ3 wheels, the new Norton Quantum3 RightCut wheels are designed with the operator in mind. It boasts a more rounded grain than precision-shaped ceramic grains found in the market today. Being rounded allows for faster cutting action, with less vibration, which is instrumental in reducing operator fatigue when cutting metal all day.
When working on thinner materials, or in the case where operators need to get the job done quickly, the 0.045"NQ3 RightCut wheel is ideal. Due to the proprietary grain, the wheel easily cuts through the workpiece quickly, increasing efficiency and saving time.
"The bond system of the NQ3 technology allows for better mix control during the manufacturing process. This better mix keeps the individual grains from clumping together, for a more even wear of the cut-off wheel," said Alicia Castagna Ph.D., Norton |Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Product Manager Thin Wheels. This is also true with the 1/16 in. NQ3 RighCut wheels when cutting thicker materials. Longer life translates to more productivity, keeping the operator working smarter, not harder.
The Norton Quantum3 line of RightCut wheels are offered in four Type 01/41 and three Type 27/42 cutting application SKU’s. All products are currently in stock. These wheels are available in 4-1/2 in., 5 in. and 6 in. are made in the USA.
